Design Principles

Through the concept and visual observation of the site i have derived a development of principles which has evolved in to the building design which i now have. The principles are in an order which exploits the development of the project.

Journey.
The unravelling of the villa is a journey of unpredictability and surprise regarding archaeology. The journey taken can take you to different area of the site. So the core of the building could be the route, journey of the building, a static route in conjunction with the unpredictability of archaeology.

Space
Through this creation of journey there is potential to create spaces which rival the villa monumental spaces.

Threshold
The use of space within the journey can create certain threshold spaces which can focus people in. These thresholds can be accomplished by the drastic change in ceiling space or creating narrow walk ways in order to get from one space to the other.

Flow, movement
There are two distinct paths through the design one is of archaeology and the other is a quick route from A to B that is the villa. The other aspect is flow which is looking into the nature of the slope on the site and how this might affect the design.
