Aspects to consider regarding a museum

There are many aspects to look at regarding preservation of the artefacts in the museum gallery places that the architect and curator must consider. However before starting on designing the architect must visualize and become the curator. He/she must look in to a wide range of aspects like, what is to be displayed, spatial experiences and objects preservation, lighting, climate conditioning and even security. These aspects all tie into how artefacts will be preserved and visualised.

Lighting

There are many factors to consider regarding lighting in a museum which can contribute to the preservation and visualisation of the museum. Lighting designs for museums come in different architectural aspects which will need to be considered in this design such as general lighting like daylight and artificial light.

Opening within museums are very considerate where roof openings and light disseminating ceiling are preferred. Also high windows are popular which allows light to penetrate deep into the building and to reduce the chances of shadows forming. Where the room ceiling is very high and light deflecting devices could be used to direct reflective light ideal for braking down the intensity of light.

There are many examples of museums which show a certain direction to take regarding a museum. Alte Pinakothek, stairway in Munich is a great space where natural light is used thus making a narrow tall space feel huge on a monumental scale. The other fact is the constant change in the interior due to the directional change in light making it a constantly changing environment. Much like the Villa Dei Quintile.
